My babies are Adults My twins turned 32 on 30th March. Boy and girl, just three apart but they are like chalk and cheese, aasman aur zameen as the saying goes—- they understand each other totally and yet are so different. My daughter is like a social bee, making a zillions of friends and thrives in a noisy environment. My son on the other hand prefers to keep to himself and probably wouldn’t survive in a very busy environment. Its a different kind of feeling, a feeling of pride, satisfaction, joy and happiness when a parent sees their child or children growing up into fine adults and venturing out into the wide world to find their own niche. My eldest one is only…

Continue ReadingPineapple Coconut Virgin Mojito Float The original plan was to make a virgin pineapple mojito. By the way, did you know that the new term for a non alcoholic mojito (moheetoh) is nojito (noheetoh). Its been so hot and humid the past few days that hubby insisted that whatever I make it has to be super cold. So the idea of the float came to my mind. Pineapple Coconut Virgin Mojito Float is a cooling, thirst quenching, nectarous mocktail with fresh tender coconut, coconut water, mint and topped with pineapple coconut sorbet. Must admit though a dash of coconut rum would have taken the mocktail to a new spirit level 😉 Mojitos usually consist of lime, mint, sparkling water, soda or limeade, with some rum.…

Continue ReadingDusting The Cobwebs Off The Cookbooks When Poonam, who blogs at Annapurna suggested Cook from a Cook Book as our #135 theme for FoodieMonday/Bloghop group, it was definitely time to get those books off the shelf. As fellow member Amrita commented, it gives us the opportunity to do some serious reading. I have so many cookbooks but majority are by Tarla Dalal. I was so tempted to just open one of the books and cook from her collection. However, I had to deviate from my comfort zone. As I was going through the books, I came across Hamlyn All Colour Cook Book. How could I forget this book? It was one of the first cookbooks I had from my family which had International dishes. At 18…

Continue ReadingFor the past couple of days I’ve been spending some relaxing and fun time with my family at Watamu. Its just sun, sand and sea. Watamu is a small coastal town just outside Malindi. We’re here to celebrate my aunt’s(foi, bua) 90th birthday which is today. Yes, you read right, 90th. I decided to treat all my 3 aunts to a foot and arm massage at the spa run by Medina Palms. As I was filling in the form of questionnaires for her, when I came to the part of if she’s taking any medication, she says very sadly ‘ yes, the doctor has prescribed Vitamins and Iron pills. Write that down”. So I go but that’s good for health and they only ask if…

Continue ReadingHappy Holi I’m not going to go into why Holi is celebrated as I’ve already mentioned that in my other Holi posts. However, I still believe that everyone can enjoy a more environmentally friendly Holi by not using artificial colors. Not only do those awful reds, blues, greens and yellows not come off our skin and hair for days but it affects the plants, makes the roads look messy and dirty. Its also a waste of water which is fast becoming even more precious than any metal on earth. At the same time please please please leave your pets out of this celebration. A hug should suffice and not coloring the poor creature’s fur with all sorts of colors! When I was growing up…

Continue ReadingBeauty is in the eye of the beholder Every Tuesday, the members of Foodiemonday/ Bloghop group wait in anticipation to see what a fellow member will suggest as a theme for the coming week. We all take turns in suggesting the theme. For the #132nd theme Mallika who blogs at A Foodie Housewife had to decide the theme. She suggested Edible Food Art and also gave us some examples. So some of us said no to the theme and some of us immediately said yes. Usually the majority win. All who said yes immediately, slowly began sending messages that they are not artistic and have no clue how to go about this theme. I was one of them. What came to my mind first…

Continue ReadingHappy Valentine’s Day What is Valentine’s Day without roses, chocolates and all things cute? Hope hubby is reading this and gets a hint;). People could be selling Valentine’s paraphernalia right under his nose and he’d still not get the hint. Sighhhh! Perhaps I should treat myself to roses. Getting down to today’s theme for FoodieMonday/Bloghop group, we unanimously decided on Valentine Rose as our 131st theme. For this theme one could either prepare something that has rose flavor or which is in the shape of a rose. I really love rose flavor so I chose to make a healthy but romantic dessert. Though I served to hubby dear a few days before Valentine’s, he thoroughly enjoyed the early treat. That means I will…

Continue ReadingHealthy Red Mondays comes just too fast.Imagine we’re already into the second month of the year. In just a month, the other Presidential Election candidate, who lost the second round of election that took place in Nov, was ‘sworn’ in as the ‘People’s President’. In their battle to win the powerful chair, the country is still battling with basic needs. High Food Prices, clean drinking water, better roads, proper sanitation, a cleaner environment to name a few issue needs urgent attention. So many issues to tackle. Mombasa has trash dumped all on roadsides and the hills are going taller by the day. I wish the politicians would for once with dedication just get on with what their tasks are instead of wasting time and useful…

Continue ReadingBack To Normal Routine Its after a very long time that I had a very relaxing holiday. Relaxing means no cooking at all, no blogging and just lazing around doing what I want. I slept, I read, I walked a bit and spent quality time with my eldest son, daughter in law and her parents. Visiting Bali was a truly a surprise for me. When I use to see postcard pictures of Bali, blue seas, sandy beaches it was not really on my wish list. When you have sandy beaches and blue sea and sunshine in your backyard, Bali was not that alluring. I think if my son and daughter in law had not decided to settle there, hubby and I would probably not have…
