EVENT: MEGA BLOGGING MARATHON#92 THEME: A-Z FLATBREADS AND MORE – INDIAN FLATBREADS – ROUND UP India has a huge variety of flatbreads – rotis, puris, parathas, bhakris, dosas, chilas, batti, litti etc. Most of these are consumed in every household either for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Some states prefer flatbreads to rice while some need both. It is believed that the humble roti may have originated from Persia where it was made using refined flour. The wheat version was started in the state of Awadh. A more coarser flour was used back then and shaped into a katori or bowl to hold the curry. It was considered a poor man’s diet, not needing an utensil to hold the curry. Yet old texts do mention roti…

The Mega Blogging Marathon theme for April 2018 was Explore the Flavors. This time we could choose from a number of given themes. Follow one theme for all 26 days or choose a weekly theme. The themes were as follows: Kids Lunchbox Street Food Indian Sweets Lunch Box Dishes (Elders) Breakfasts (International or Indian) No Refined Sugar or Refined Flour (only baked or typical dishes that are made with alternatives) No Onion No Garlic Whole Grain I chose to do the International Breakfast theme and this time I didn’t post the dishes randomly but followed the alphabet and also tried not to repeat the country. Overall a challenging task but feel really great as I got to discover so many different breakfast dishes from world…

BM#85 MAIN COURSE WITH GRAVY OR RICE What constantly baffles me is when people who usually prepare meat and fish dishes cannot think beyond simple potato curry for vegetarian options or a simple pea pulao for rice options. I’m seriously hoping that all die hard non vegetarians will think of vegetarian world beyond potatoes. When you’re a member of a group like Blogging Marathon, there can never be a shortage of new dishes, new ideas or a twist to any dish. For the BM#85 one of the themes that members could choose was MAIN COURSE WITH GRAVY OR RICE. Indian Cuisine definitely does not have a shortage of how many types or styles of gravies or curries one can serve to Vegetarians. Simple…

Can’t stop thinking of Proteins! Finally, the Mega Blogging Marathon is over with all the Protein Rich Dishes. Being a vegetarian I had to think of plant based and dairy products that are rich in Protein. Surprising there’s so much choice out there. Yes, most do not provide the complete protein as animal or meat/fish do but a combination of plant based and dairy products does take care of your daily protein intake. A typical Indian meal usually consists of vegetables, lentils or beans in the form of dals and curries, grains in the form of rice or rotis, parathas, puris and most meals are incomplete without a glass of cold chaas/lassi (yogurt drink) or a raita (yogurt based salad). A complete protein is a…

100th Theme Celebration The FoodieMonday/Bloghop Group celebrates its 100th theme this week. Its been a journey where I personally have made some good blogging friends, learnt a lot about other Indian cuisines, oogled at how some of the members style and photograph their dishes, learnt how to be more aware of healthiness in a recipe, how to think out of the box and it also has made me more aware and respectful for the people and families of the armed forces of India. Not only have I learnt new recipes and new cooking techniques but the journey so far has taught me to grow stronger as a person. My journey with the group began on 14/3/2016. I was introduced to the group by a former…

Happy Mother’s Day A few weeks back, I was thinking of my mum and obviously missing her tonnes. I wanted the approaching Mother’s Day to be less painful. Now don’t get me wrong my kids (from 3 now I have 5 🙂 ) all shower me with lots of love. I thought why not get some of my blogger friends to celebrate this day with me. Its amazing how much closer we all have become and most of us poured our hearts out and each ones recipe is somehow, somewhere connected to their mothers. I approached 25 and 19 responded with enthusiasm and sent heartfelt messages. So here’s what each of them shared for Mother’s Day. Mayuri Patel: My mum loved her Gujarati snacks like handvo,…
