EVENT: FOODIEMONDAY/BLOGHOP THEME: #162 LEMON AFFAIR RECIPE: LEMON CHUTNEY Lemon Chutney is a versatile, easy to make, flavourful, spicy Indian style chutney. What I like about this recipe is that if you add enough oil, it stays fresh in the fridge for months. It is actually a much quicker version of the Gujarati lemon pickle or limbu nu athanu. You will always find a jar or lemon chutney in my fridge as it is my favourite. Not only that, it is a versatile chutney. EVENT: MEGA BLOGGING MARATHON#92 THEME: A-Z  FLATBREADS AND MORE – INDIAN FLATBREADS The day has not begun on a happy note for most Kenyans. Yet again we have to tighten our belts as petrol prices have risen with a 16% VAT on petroleum products. We were already trying to deal with high food prices and the high cost of living and this falls like a tonne of bricks on our heads. Yet again transport prices with go up and in turn effect the cost of transporting basic goods like food and clothing. For many Kenyans there is nothing to be cheerful about as salaries don’t increase but the cost of living has been rising since the Jubilee Party came into power. We just have to…

  • Kalan

    August 13, 2018mayurisjikoni

Recipe: Kalan Kalan is a traditional yogurt or buttermilk based curry from the Kerala Cuisine. Usually plantain, raw banana or yam is used. It is also served as part of Onam Sadhya. A bit different from other yogurt based curries is that pepper powder is added to it. Why I Made Kalan? I must admit though I’ve been blogging for quite a number of years, I’ve yet to try out so many recipes. The list is endless. India itself has so much to offer. Each state or each festival has its own cuisine. My knowledge of South Indian cuisine was limited to idlis and dosas before I started participating in various groups and made some blogger friends. Through the numerous exciting  themes that the FoodieMonday…

  • Black Rice Pudding with Mango

    August 6, 2018mayurisjikoni

EVENT: FOODIEMONDAY/BLOGHOP THEME: #156 ANY BUT WHITE RICE One of the reasons why I had bought black rice during my visit to Bali was to try out the simple and yet so flavorful pudding that is so common to find on menus in the restaurants around Bali. Sometime back I had posted a red rice kheer and a black rice salad recipe. I kept on getting comments that fellow bloggers had not used red or black rice. It was my turn to choose the #156th theme. I thought let the group get an opportunity to try out rice other than white which they’ve not used. For me it was simple, out came the packet of forbidden rice as its also called to make the pudding.…

  • Pan de Yuca/ Yuca Bread#BreadBakers

    July 10, 2018mayurisjikoni

EVENT: BREAD BAKERS THEME: GLUTEN FREE BREAD This pan de yuca, yuca bread or cassava bread recipe has been in my recipe book for over a year. I had once bought some cassava flour to try out some traditional African recipe. Lost the recipe, couldn’t remember the name and was left with the bag of flour. When I cleaning out the fridge, the flour came out from some hidden corner. Googled for recipes to use up the flour and came across the recipe for pan de yuca. I jotted it down and decided to check out other similar recipes. What got me so confused was the different oven temperatures used, the amount of cheese used. A bit frustrated, thought I’ll get back to the recipe…
