Updated : 03/11/2020 Must have Gujarati Goodies during Diwali – Googra/ Gujiya For most Gujarati homes,Diwali is incomplete without Googra/ Gujiya. Other must have are: Magas(chickpea flour fudge) Gur na Ladwa Doodh Pak Chevdo (savory mixture potato crisps, fried chana dal, moong and poha). When my mother in law was here in Mombasa, we would make a huge quantity of chevdo. Its actually takes about 1-2 hours to make it. Mathias (usually made from sprouted moth and urad dal). This was another savory that we made at home. But nowadays I don’t make chevdo or mathia at home. I buy the ready made chevdo, and ready rolled out mathia. I fry them at home. EGG FREE CARROT MUFFINS Egg free Carrot Muffins are so easy to make, soft and delicious with orange flavour. Addition of plain yogurt makes the muffins soft and spongy. No one will believe that these muffins are made without any eggs. Adding fresh orange juice and zest makes them even more tastier. This recipe is pretty versatile where you can replace the flour, fat, flavour, liquid, spice and the raisins to make it into what your family loves. And these muffins are not overtly sweet. Adding the frosting is totally optional. Memories Happy Birthday my dear friend Daxa. I always try and bake a cake, cupcakes or muffins for my bestie’s birthday. She is not much into baking so my baked goodies are always make…

EVENT: FOODIES_ REDOING OLD POSTS #38 RECIPE: KENYAN STYLE BISCUITS What are Kenyan Style Biscuits? How these homemade biscuits got the name Kenyan Style Biscuits or Kenyan Biscuits, I have no idea. The only thing I know is that most Asian homes in East Africa in the 50s to 70s era made them. Most common flavour was from the cardamom powder but some made ginger flavored ones. For me it was when the women of our family spent time together, doing their share in baking these biscuits. Basically flour, sugar, butter, milk and leavening agents are used to make these super delicious biscuits. Memories When I was growing up, the only biscuits that most Gujarati families in Kenya made were the rolled biscuits. Its only…
