  • 49. strawberry frozen yogurt

    May 16, 2012mayurisjikoni

happy birthday Rishi I love strawberries but they are very difficult to find in Mombasa. I remember the days when big juicy strawberries were available in the shops and markets on a very regular basis. At that time my favourite and very easy dessert to prepare was strawberries with fresh cream. 2 days ago I found a punnet of strawberries at the market in Mombasa after eons and I just grabbed it. Didn’t even bother to ask the price. Of course very soon I realised I have paid a lot of money for about a cup and a half of strawberries. Didn’t want to make an easy dessert with it, but what could I make? Going through my recipe book I came across the recipe…

    May 9, 2012mayurisjikoni

RECIPE: AAM PANNA/ KAIRI PANHA Aam Panna/ Kairi Panha also known as aam jhora is a sweet, tangy, cooling summer drink made from raw mangoes. Especially enjoyed during the hot summer months as raw mango has cooling effect on the body. It prevents heat exhaustion as its loaded with sugar and is rich in pectin, Vitamin B and C. It is believed that this recipe originates from West India. Whether that is the truth or not, come summer and every household makes this thirst quenching delicious and cooling drink. I personally sometimes cannot stop at one glass only! I know it full of calories, but who cares about eating food after that…unless it is a chaat dish 😉   My Way Of Making Aam Panna/…

  • Avocado Vinaigrette

    May 1, 2012mayurisjikoni

Avocado Vinaigrette Avocado Vinaigrette is a classic traditional entrée which is so simple to prepare but a very delicious way to enjoy avocados. The only important factors for this so easy to prepare starter is that the avocado should be just ripe and that the vinaigrette does not taste like acetic acid, too acidic and tangy.   Memories – No anchovies for me please! I remember when some old classic restaurant in Mombasa would serve Avocado Vinaigrette as a starter/entrée. Mostly, there wouldn’t be a suitable vegetarian starter except for Avocado Vinaigrette. Though labelled as vegetarian, it would have anchovies! Most restaurant owners do not understand that when you are a vegetarian it includes no fish! “But fish is vegetarian Ma’am” is the answer I…

  • Beetroot Tomato Juice

    January 2, 2012mayurisjikoni

updated Beetroot Tomato Juice : 27/06/2020 My Family and Fresh Juices Fresh juices are most welcome when the sun is beating down on you and sweating zaps you of  your energy. My family is a big consumer of fresh fruit juices. In fact my hubby and eldest son would rather have some juice instead of water. Even though all the ‘fresh’ juice cartons mention no added sugar, I seriously don’t believe them as all the juices taste really sweet. Therefore, I try as much as possible to make fresh fruit juices at home. I know they all would prefer the sweetest juices like fresh passion fruit, lemonade or even sugar cane juice every single day  but I don’t make it often. Usually I prefer either watermelon or…
