Back Home Traveling back home is always heart breaking for me. Our trips abroad are usually to visit family. Its always a joyous time when we travel to them but heart breaking when we have to get back. This year we spent nearly 2 months in Montreal and I so didn’t want to come back. I miss my son(shhh hope the other 2 kids are not actually reading the post!). I miss him more so because he’s still single and not really ready to mingle so forget about having a soul mate, best mate etc etc. We don’t have any relatives or family friends in Montreal. The couple we had have moved to other cities. He has his friends, but not really close ones. He…

  • 676. Green Apple and Spring Onion Chutney

    July 28, 2017mayurisjikoni

It’s different    For the month of July, The Shhh Cooking Secretly group decided on #Chutneys as the theme. The chutneys I’ve seen so far by the participants are so varied. But then why not as many regions of India have their own chutneys to boast about. We make them from herbs, dals, vegetables, fruits, dairy products, basically anything. I remember my grandmother would not allow us to throw away the peel of cucumber. She would instruct me how to make that into a chutney. Back then we didn’t have any fancy electrical gadgets. She would make me pound the cucumber peels, coriander, ginger and chilli using a mortar and pestle. And a delicious chutney would be ready in no time to dip our bhajias into…

My partner Janani Krishnakumaar gave the ingredients rice and vegetables.Janani is a blogger at Red Chilly Curry.A vegetarian blog, she has many South Indian recipes, Christmas goodies, festival dishes and much more.Check her blog out.     After a series of sweet dishes one after the other (entertaining guests) I didn’t want to make any sweet dish or something unhealthy. Since I’ve bought the paddu or paniyaram pan(chatli), I’ve always tried out various types of paddus and other bhajia mixtures with much success. Easy to make This is my second scone recipe. I don’t know why I don’t make them often enough. Maybe just the mental block that they are difficult to make. Trust me they are not. There are two reasons I came up with recipe. Firstly, my partner for Shhh Cooking Secretly, Jolly who has a wonderful blog Homemade Recipes gave me the ingredients condensed milk and plain flour(maida, all purpose flour) for our July theme#MonsoonTreats. Monsoon means hot treats like bhajias, soups, curries. I really couldn’t think what Monsoon treat to make using those ingredients.I narrowed it down to baking something but what was the question. Coming to my second reason.. my brother, bhabhi and niece are here in Mombasa. They’ve come to attend a wedding.…
