Recipe: Walnut Chocolate Tartlets

These Walnut Chocolate Tartlets are easy to make, sugar free, gluten free healthy and nutritious. Both kids and adults can enjoy these tartlets as dessert or a snack. These tartlets do not require any baking. Yes you heard right. They contain no flour. The only cooking required is to toast the walnuts and melt the chocolate. Both which I did in the microwave oven to save on time.

When To Serve Walnut Chocolate Tartlets

  • As a healthy snack option as no refined sugar is used. Also I have used 70% cocoa dark chocolate.
  • As a healthy dessert.
  • Serve as party dessert, a good option for those who are avoiding refined sugar. The sweetness comes from the dates.
  • Good as gluten free dessert option.
  • Picnics and birthdays.
  • As a treat in lunchboxes.
  • For festivals  like Diwali, Christmas, etc.

 

Sharing Walnut Chocolate Tartlets Recipe With 2024 Alphabet Challenge Group

We’re almost reaching the end of this challenge, just 3 more to go and the year ends. But, I think a new challenge will be decided for 2025. For this one, I had planned to redo an old recipe, Watermelon Bruschetta. However, as easy as the recipe is, the right time or moment didn’t come up. With all the travelling I have been doing! I almost missed out on letter W. I prepared these Walnut Chocolate Tartlets for Diwali. When I told hubby I have not prepared my dish for letter W, smart and observant that he is, stated ” I thought those walnut things are for the blog!” I had a duh moment. But of course, W for walnuts. Phew!!!

Not too many options when it comes to W. We have watermelon, waffles, white chocolate, walnuts, wheat, wontons, white beans, whiskey, wine, white gourd.

Ingredients Required For Walnut Chocolate Tartlets

Walnuts

We need walnuts that are toasted. Either toast them in a wide pan over low heat for 2-3 minutes or in the microwave oven as I do. Toast them for 2 minutes or less.

Dark Chocolate

Use 70%-80% dark chocolate for healthier walnut chocolate tartlets. If you making them for kids go ahead and use milk chocolate. I melted the chocolate in the microwave oven for 1 minute.

Dates

Soft dates are best for this recipe as they will not only add natural sweetness but also act as a binding agent.

Peanut Butter

I like to use natural peanut butter without any sugar or added oil. The natural peanut butter I use has natural peanut oil therefore no addition coconut oil or melted butter is required.

Desiccated Coconut

Optional. Add if you want to. I have used unsweetened desiccated coconut.

Melted Butter | Coconut Oil

Need it only if the mixture is too dry and you cannot shape it. I didn’t need to add any as there was some natural oil from the peanut butter.

WALNUT CHOCOLATE TARTLETS

Yes you heard right. The only cooking required is to toast the walnuts and melt the chocolate. Both which I did in the microwave oven to save on time.

Ingredients
  

  • 75 g walnuts approx. ¾ cup
  • 150 g dates approx.1 cup
  • 2 tbsp unsweetened desiccated coconut optional
  • 100 g peanut butter approx.½ cup
  • 100 g dark chocolate approx. 1 cup
  • 2 tbsp coconut oil or melted butter optional

Instructions
 

  • Toast the walnuts in a wide pan over low heat for 2-3 minutes or in the microwave oven for 2 minutes.
  • Allow the walnuts to cool down a bit.
  • In the meantime, pit the dates. Remove the seeds.
  • Transfer the walnuts to a food processor. Process till they are roughly chopped.
  • Add the pitted dates and peanut butter.
  • Process till the mixture comes together as a paste.
  • Transfer the mixture to a plate or bowl.
  • Add the desiccated coconut if you are using any. Mix well.
  • If the mixture appears a bit dry add some melted butter or coconut oil and mix well. I didn't need to use any.
  • Take about ½ tablespoonful of the walnut date paste and roll it into a ball.
  • Use a silicon mini muffin cup to shape the ball into a mini tartlet.
  • Alternately use the back of a scoop spoon to shape the mixture into a cup or tartlet.
  • Add the chocolate chips into a microwave safe bowl.
  • Melt the chocolate for 50-60 seconds. Mix well. If need be microwave it for another 10 seconds.
  • Using a small spoon. fill the tartlets with the melted chocolate.
  • Rest the walnut chocolate tartlets in the fridge for 10 minutes before serving.
  • Can add some sprinkles or chopped pistachio on top if you want to.

Notes

  • Add flavourings like cardamom or cinnamon powder if you wish.
  • Make sure you use soft dates for this recipe.
  • Can use milk or white chocolate.
  • Store the tartlets in an airtight container.
  • The tartlets stay fresh at room temperature for 3-4 days. Best to keep them in the fridge if you want them to stay fresh for longer.
