Beetroot Tomato Soup
Recipe: Beetroot Tomato Soup
Beetroot Tomato Soup is a comforting, easy to make and healthy soup. With some warm spices, it is perfect for the cold season. With the weather so unpredictable at the moment, snow, rain, wind chills, storms, etc soups are so comforting and definitely warm up the body and soul.
This cold season has given me the opportunity to redo some of my really old soup recipes. I had first posted Beetroot Tomato Soup on 20/05/2012. For sure had to add new photos as the old ones were not appetizing at all.
Memories: Remembering Alsisar
Year 2012 February hubby had a medical conference in Jaipur, Rajasthan. So we decided to combine his conference and my 50th birthday celebrations together. I love Rajasthan, full of colour, vibrant, rich culture, land of deserts and palaces, finger licking food. Maybe I love it because I spent 4 years in Rajasthan in a boarding school. I had the choice of staying in some of the most expensive hotels in Jaipur as a birthday treat but I opted for a small haveli stay.
What Is A Haveli?
A havelis were the mansions of medieval periods that belonged to nobles who served the Rajput Rulers or Kings. They usually are of historical and architectural significance. I preferred the experience of living in a traditional home as opposed to a modern hotel. We stayed at this very quaint, small haveli called Alsisar.
Alsisar
Immediately, I fell in love with the place. Colourful stained glass windows, grand intricately craved four poster beds, draped with delicate motif fabric, traditional paintings everywhere. It effused regal charm. Each room is work of art. While hubby went for his conference I spent hours in their sublime, peaceful open courtyard reading. In the distance could hear the noise of life outside the main door and birds chirping in the courtyard.
Our Stay
We were treated like royalty by the staff. So friendly and helpful. On our first day, we were served with beetroot tomato soup. Initially I did screw my nose, but decided to have it as I was feeling cold. The first spoon in my mouth and the soup tasted heavenly. Couldn’t believe it tasted so good. For the duration of our stay I enjoyed beetroot tomato soup every day for lunch. I did try and get the recipe, but didn’t manage to get the exact recipe from the chef. “Madam just take a few tomatoes and beetroot and make the soup. Add whatever spices you like.” That was the chef’s recipe.
If you ever happen to visit Jaipur, you have to experience the stay at Alsisar. That is one place I would love to go and stay again at. On their website the describe the Haveli as “An island of tranquility in a world of chaos.” That is a perfect description of the place. Please do visit their website. ( This is not a paid post, it is my personal opinion).
Beetroot Tomato Soup
When we got back home, we were reminiscing about our holiday in Jaipur when I mentioned how I love beetroot tomato soup and they way it was served with hot buttered naans. Hubby’s immediate reaction was “well, you had it for a week for lunch so am sure you can recreate it at home as you must remember the flavours”. That was like a challenge.
Well, I may not have got it exactly like the Alsisar one, but eventually created a version that we loved.
