Strawberry Hazelnut Crostini
Recipe: Strawberry Hazelnut Crostini
Strawberry Hazelnut Crostini is a quick, unique and delectable dessert or snack. Comes together pretty quickly and it is pure indulgence if like me you love hazelnut chocolate spread.
There are some combinations that I simply love on my bread – peanut butter and banana, Nutella and strawberries. cheddar cheese and green chutney, cucumber slices with pickle masala. These are my lazy day or quick snack options.
What Is A Crostini?
Crostini is simply the Italian word for small slices of grilled or toasted bread. Toppings for a crostini may be vegetables, meat, sauces, dips, oil, etc. The options are endless to create a delicious and quick appetizer or starter in a jiffy.

This weekend theme is Strawberries. Sue suggested we share a Strawberry Recipe. The initial plan was to redo my Strawberry Frozen Yogurt Recipe. However, that plan changed when I received Hazelnut Spreads as a present from my son for Mother’s Day. I am a huge fan of Nutella but stopped buying it as it contains sugar and palm oil. Truthfully, I can eat spoonfuls of Nutella on its own. Nowadays I have learned to stop buying products that are not so healthy. Also helps us to use that money towards healthier products like fruits and vegetables, considering that food prices keep on rising. When we came to Canada in 2021 a 415 g bag of chips was less than CAD 4. Now for the same bag it is a whooping CAD 8 plus!

Ingredients Required For Strawberry Hazelnut Crostini
Baguette
The size of the slices will depend on how thin or thick the baguette is. I like to cut the slices at least about ½ inch in thickness. I used only half a baguette for this recipe. However, you can double the recipe if you’re going to feed a larger crowd. The slices are toasted. Make sure you don’t toast them till they become too crunchy. The edges should be a bit crunchy and the middle soft.
Hazelnut Spread
I got 3 jars of Allo Simonne for Mother’s Day. Hazelnut, Dark Chocolate and Buckwheat, Hazelnut and Milk Chocolate, Hazelnut and Dark Chocolate spreads. Their spreads are free from refined sugar, contain no oils, palm oil, additives and the chocolates used are made by them- from bean to bar. Please note that I have not been paid by Allo Simonne, this is my own opinion. As soon as I opened the jar, the nutty and vanilla aroma was urging me to grab a spoon and finish the whole jar!
Therefore, I would definitely recommend you to have the real chocolate and hazelnut spread without any added sugar, palm oil or additives. You will not regret it at all. On the jar it stated that 1 tbsp of the spread is 80 calories. So there, a guilt free snack as I didn’t need a tbsp of the spread for one slice.
Strawberries
At the moment the strawberries are super sweet. As a result I didn’t need to add any sugar to them. The confectioners sugar or icing sugar was used for garnishing purposes. If the strawberries are not sweet enough, slice them up and add sugar. Mix well. Leave it on the side for about 15-20 minutes till the sugar melts. Any syrup can be drizzled over the strawberries. Alternately, for a healthier snack drizzle some honey or maple syrup. The number of strawberries required will depend on the size of strawberries. I had large strawberries and used only 4 of them.
Mint
For garnishing. Can omit it but using a bit of it adds a lovely flavour.

STRAWBERRY HAZELNUT CROSTINI
Ingredients
- ½ baguette
- 1 cup strawberries sliced
- 6 tsp hazelnut spread
- 6 leaves mint fresh
- 1 tbsp confectioners sugar optional
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 180℃.
- Slice the baguette. I cut them into ½ inch thickness and used 6 slices.
- Arrange the slices on a lined baking tray.
- Toast the baguette slices for 4-6 minutes or till the slices are light golden brown on top.
- Remove the toasted slices from the oven.
- Allow them to cool for 1-2 minutes.
- In the meantime wash and wipe the strawberries.
- Cut them into slices or small pieces. Whichever you prefer.
- Spread each toasted slice with the hazelnut spread. I used hazelnut and milk chocolate spread on 3 slices and hazelnut and dark chocolate on the other 3.
- Can spread more or less of the spread according to your preference.
- Arrange the strawberry slices on the hazelnut chocolate spread.
- Add some chopped mint leaves.
- Dust the strawberry hazelnut crostini with some confectioners sugar. This is optional.
Notes
- Use Nutella if you don't get any oil free and sugar free hazelnut chocolate spread.
- Make sure the strawberries are fresh.
- Don't over toast the baguette slices. It will become difficult to bite into them.
