Baked Brie With Honey
Recipe: Baked Brie With Honey
Baked Brie With Honey is an easy and quick appetizer that always wows my guests. A versatile appetizer, it can be topped with so many different nuts, dried fruits, fruit sauces, etc. After honey or maple my favourite is when I top it with cranberry sauce during the Christmas season. Baked Brie is usually served with lightly toasted baguette slices, crackers, meat slices, fruits, bread sticks, etc. instead of maple syrup or honey, sometimes I like to top it with some fruit jam or jelly. Our all time favourite is with chilli jam.
What Is Brie?
Brie is a soft, creamy, spreadable, mild French cheese made from cow’s milk. The interior is soft and it is coated with an edible white mold rind. Originating from the Brie Region of France, the more butter fat it has, the creamier it is. Generally served at room temperature as a part of the cheese board, it sometimes is served warmed as an appetizer.
Sharing Baked Brie With Honey Recipe With Sunday Funday
For this weekend theme, Camilla suggested we use honey. ” September is National Honey Month. Share a favorite recipe that uses honey. It can be a sweet, a savory, or even a beverage.” I decided to share my favourite appetizer, Baked Brie With Honey. When we were in Kenya, Brie was not a part of our diet as it was not readily available. I first tasted Brie during my visit to UK. Coming to Canada, my son introduced us to Brie and Baguette topped with preserve. Then I get a brie baking dish as a Christmas present. And hubby and I are hooked onto Brie! Today I have not used the dish as photography would be a bit challenging.

Ingredients Required For Baked Brie With Honey
Brie Cheese
For baked brie it is best to go for the creamy variety and the wheel. The wedges will not work well. You don’t necessarily need the best quality of brie for this recipe as the other ingredients added will take over the flavours. I went for a 200g medium flavoured with 45% moisture locally made brie. Brie cheeses from France are frightfully expensive! Remove the wrapper. I like to keep the brie chilled till I am ready to bake it. Some brie bake within 12 minutes, others take 15-18 minutes. I would suggest that after 12 minutes you press the middle of the cheese gently with your finger. It should feel it will give way. Mine took 15 minutes to bake.
Honey
Use good quality honey as that will add flavour to the overall baked brie. For this recipe we will be using 2-3 tbsp of honey.
To Serve
Crostini | Baguette
Some Crostini or baguette slices toasted. I usually slice up a baguette and toast add it to the tray with the brie. As the brie gets baked, the baguette slices get toasted.
Add some crackers of your choice. We sometimes add bread sticks.
Fruits
Apple slices, grapes, peaches, nectarine, figs all go pretty well with brie. Try baking the brie and figs, nectarine or peach chunks on the side. Tastes absolutely delish. Dried blueberries and cranberries work well too.
Fresh Herbs
Add some fresh thyme (my favourite) or rosemary. I find rosemary adds too strong a flavour.
Nuts
Any nuts of your choice as they add a bite. I like to chop the nuts roughly. Use pecans, walnuts, almonds, pistachios.
Sea Salt
Optional. Sprinkle a generous pinch over the baked brie. I didn’t add any.
Red Chilli Flakes
Adds a little spiciness with every bite. Again this is an optional ingredient. I sprinkled some over the baked brie.

BAKED BRIE WITH HONEY
Ingredients
- 1 wheel Brie Cheese 200g
- 2-3 tbsp honey
- 2 tbsp walnuts roughly chopped
- 2 tbsp pistachios roughly chopped
- ½ baguette sliced
- 12-14 crackers
- 1 apple sliced
- handful grapes
- 1 tbsp fresh thyme
- pinch sea salt optional
- ¼ tsp red chilli flakes optional
Instructions
PREHEAT THE OVEN
- Preheat the oven to 180℃.
- Take a square piece of parchment paper and crumple it.
- Place it on the baking tray.
- Arrange the baguette slices around the paper.
- Place the chilled brie wheel on the parchment paper.
- Cut ¼ inch deep 4-5 lines in the brie.
- Turn it about 45° and cut 4-5 more lines
- Scatter the thyme over the brie.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes.
- After 12 minutes, you will see that the brie has melted pushing through the slits.
- If not bake for further 3-4 miinutes.
- Take the baking tray out of the oven.
- Immediately transfer the baked brie onto a serving plate or board. I like to leave the parchment paper.
- Drizzle the honey over the hot brie.
- Add some chopped walnuts and pistachios. Add some red chilli flakes.
- At this point sprinkle a pinch of sea salt if you want to.
- Arrange the toasted baguette slices, crackers, fruits around the melted brie.
- The cheese will stay melted for 15 minutes. After that it will become solid.
- Make sure you serve it immediately.
- Sometimes I have some leftover. I usually add that to an omelette.
Notes
- Add nuts of your choice.
- Can easily replace the honey with maple syrup.
- Use rosemary instead of thyme.
- Can add the honey over the brie wheel before baking. Bake with the honey on top.
- Serve some meat like prosciutto, salami.
- Add preserves or fruit sauces of your choice.
- Don't throw away leftover melted brie. Add it to your omelette, pasta, or use it as a part of your sandwich.
