Honeydew Sorbet
Recipe: Honeydew Sorbet
Honeydew Sorbet is a light, refreshing, cooling, healthy summer time dessert. Pretty easy to make if you have frozen honeydew cubes in the freezer. Summer time is when I always have some frozen fruit in the freezer so that I can make quick cooling desserts or smoothies. When honeydew melons are not sweet, no one wants to eat it. Simple solution instead of the fruit lying around, freeze it. While you can opt to add refined sugar I tend to add honey or maple syrup. Not only are they healthier but add a unique flavour to the sorbet.
Sharing Honeydew Sorbet With Shhh Cooking Secretly Group
For the month of June, the theme was COOKING WITHOUT FIRE, hosted by me. Participants are allowed to use microwave oven, air fryer, oven, etc. but no fire or flame. It can be a partially cooked dish or not cooked at all like mine.
My Partner
My partner for this theme is Preethi who blogs at Preethi’s Cuisine. You may know that this group functions in a different way. The participants are paired each month. We give each other secret ingredients depending on what we have in mind to cook or prepare according to the theme. We give each other 2 secret ingredients. Once our dish is ready we post the picture on our FB group page. Other members try and guess the two ingredients. Sometimes it is easy but most of the time the participants try and hide their secret ingredients.
Preethi gave me salt and orange juice while I asked to use chaat masala and chilli flakes for her recipe. Using those ingredients she has prepared a unique but healthy Air Fryer Rice Paper Dumplings. Can’t wait to try out this recipe.
Memories
I shared this recipe way back on 04/04/2016 for the No Cook No Bake, 34th theme organized by the FoodieMonday/ Bloghop Group. It was so hot in Mombasa during that time. It was a perfect time to prepare a saved recipe. Bought honeydew melon, former the cubes and next day we enjoyed a cool and delicious sorbet. A welcome treat especially after a day of fasting. Yes, you can enjoy this dessert during your Navratri, Ekadashi, Ram Navmi or Shivratri fasting.
Decided to republish this recipe with better photos, write up and a video too.

Ingredients Required For Honeydew Sorbet
Honeydew Melon
Try and buy a ripe one as those tend to be sweet. Cut the melon into half, scoop out the seeds. Peel the skin off and cut the melon into cubes that are not too big otherwise too small. Arrange them in a single layer on a try or an airtight container. Put the container or tray in the freezer. Allow the melon to freeze for 6-8 hours or overnight. Us straight out of the freezer into the blender when you make the sorbet. I try and buy the biggest melon possible so that I can save some to make Honeydew Caprese Salad.
Orange Juice
Best to use fresh orange juice. Need a bit of liquid to crush the frozen fruit.
Lemon Juice
Adds a bit of tanginess.
Maple Syrup | Honey
Use any natural sweetener of your choice. I like to use maple syrup or honey. Other options are agave syrup, date syrup, coconut sugar, etc
Salt
Adding a bit of salt brings out the flavours of the other ingredients used.
Fresh Mint
Add 10-12 mint leaves. Pluck the leaves from the stalk. May use fresh basil instead.

Notes
- Adjust the sweetness according to your taste. If you want, you may add sugar instead of honey or maple syrup.
- If the fresh orange juice is sour, you may skip adding lemon juice.
- Cut the fruit pieces into small pieces so it is easy to process it in the blender or food processor.
- Don't process the mixture for too long without switching off the machine as it will melt the frozen fruit.

Thank you so much. It is my go to dessert for the summers. What I like is that even when the melon is not sweet I am able to add a bit more honey or maple syrup and it turns out well.
