WALDORF SALAD

Waldorf Salad is a creamy, crispy, filling, delish, classic salad. Enjoy it as a light meal, serve it as a starter dish or as a side for a party. The subtly sweet dressing, the crunch from the celery and crispiness of the apples makes this elegant salad a party winner.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 large apple
  • ½ cup celery stalk thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp celery leaves tender
  • ½ cup grapes cut into halves
  • ¼ cup walnuts toasted
  • 2 tbsp mayonnaise
  • ¼ cup fresh heavy cream
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 4-5 lettuce leaves optional

Instructions
 

  • Toast the walnuts in a skillet over low heat or in the microwave oven for 40-60 seconds.
  • Chop the walnuts roughly.
  • Wash the celery stalk well. Wipe with a kitchen towel.
  • Slice the stalk thinly.
  • Wash the tender celery leaves. Pat them dry and chop finely.
  • Wash and wipe the grapes dry. Cut them into halves.
  • Chop the apple into small pieces. Add lemon juice to it and mix well.
  • Add all the above ingredients in a mixing bowl.
  • Add the mayonnaise, cream, sugar and salt.
  • Toss the salad well.
  • Cover the bowl. Chill the salad for 1 hour or overnight in the fridge.
  • Layer a serving plate with the lettuce leaves.
  • Add the chilled salad.
  • Garnish with some extra chopped walnuts if you like and the chopped celery leaves.

Notes

  • This salad recipe serves 2 as a meal and 4 as a starter or side dish.
  • Mix red and green apples if you like.
  • Add pecans instead of walnuts.
  • Use a mixture of red and green grapes or only green.
  • Instead of mayonnaise, use sour cream or yogurt. If you use either then don't add fresh cream.
