Masala Chip Butty is a version of the popular British street food. It simply is chips or fries served in between two slices of bread.

Cuisine British
- 2 large bread buns/ rolls
- 2 tbsp butter
- 100 g frozen fries or chips
- 1 small onion sliced
- 4 tbsp tikka masala or sauce
- 1 tbsp fresh coriander chopped
Prepare the chips or fries. Since I have used frozen masala fries, it took 20 minutes to bake them in the oven.
You can deep fry them or make your own fries. Alternately, use leftover fries.
Slice the buns into halves.
Butter the slices.
Smear 1 tbsp of the tikka masala or sauce on each slice. Make sure it is a generous amount for full flavour.
Divide the cooked fries or chips between the two.
Arrange the fries on the lower part of the bun.
Top with some onion slices, sprinkle some coriander.
Cover with the upper part of the bun.
Enjoy.
- Use any bread of your choice, slices, buns, naan or roti.
- Use any sauce or curry of your choice, homemade or ready made. I prefer either the makhani or tikka sauce.
- Alternately, you can use a flavourful chutney like my Garlic and Tomato Chutney
- For authentic chip butty, take two thick slices of bread. Butter them. Add the chips.Drizzle some malt vinegar. Sprinkle salt and pepper and enjoy.
