For Gujaratis it means garba and dandhia. It’s also the time when many fast for the 9 days. Different people fast in different ways depending on their tradition, culture or area they come for. For most Gujaratis these 9 days of fasting means no grains or pulses are consumed along with many of the beans and other vegetables. Some with poojas and havans, some by laying out different types of miniature dolls depicting the Gods, demi Gods, animals and people. For Gujaratis its all about garbas and dandiya raas. I miss the small familiar community celebration that takes place every year at the Patel Samaj in Mombasa. This year I’m in Bangalore.     a great treat Sabudana vada has been on my ‘to do list’ for a very long time. These days I am trying to avoid fried foods if possible so that when we dine out, I can indulge in whatever I want. However this Ekadashi, I just decided to make a fried snack. I am so glad I made these so crunchy and delicious vadas. A Maharashtrian snack, which is commonly found as street food, its easy to prepare and crispy from the outside and soft inside. Its usually served with sweetened yogurt.
