EVENT: RECIPE SWAP CHALLENGE THEME:RECIPE SWAP 3 Today’s recipe is for the Recipe Swap Challenge Group. What is this group all about? Initiated by Jolly Makkar and Vidya Narayan, every alternate month the participants are paired up. We choose a recipe to cook from our partner’s blog. The recipe can be cooked as it is or make slight changes. This a great group as it allows me to prepare recipes that I’ve bookmarked or saved from fellow bloggers. When I submitted my name for this challenge, I thought I would have enough time after I come back from my trip to India to prepare my recipe. Sure I did have a few days as I’d already decided what I wanted to make from my partner…

EVENT: BREAD BAKERS THEME : MIDDLE EASTERN BREADS I find that Middle Eastern Breads are so different from the other breads and I love them. So when Karen who blogs at Karen’s Kitchen Stories suggested Middle Eastern Breads, I knew I’d take part. However time was running out for me as I had to travel in September and I also had committed to doing 26 Indian Flatbreads. So it was like my kitchen was full of breads..though flat, but it was screaming ‘make something different like rice’ and I had to reassure it that soon all this flour work would be over. I had a few days left before the travel date approached and was in a dilemma, should I participate, shouldn’t I! The pull…

  • A-Z Indian Flatbreads

    October 9, 2018mayurisjikoni

EVENT: MEGA BLOGGING MARATHON#92 THEME: A-Z  FLATBREADS AND MORE – INDIAN FLATBREADS – ROUND UP India has a huge variety of flatbreads – rotis, puris, parathas, bhakris, dosas, chilas, batti, litti etc. Most of these are consumed in every household either for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Some states prefer flatbreads to rice while some need both. It is believed that the humble roti may have originated from Persia where it was made using refined flour. The wheat version was started in the state of Awadh. A more coarser flour was used back then and shaped into a katori or bowl to hold the curry. It was considered a poor man’s diet, not needing an utensil to hold the curry. Yet old texts do mention roti…

EVENT: MEGA BLOGGING MARATHON#92 THEME: A-Z  FLATBREADS AND MORE – INDIAN FLATBREADS What is Mega Blogging Marathon? Well, its a group of bloggers who get together to post a dish for 26 days according to the chosen theme. For more details check out the initiator Srivalli’s page here. For this theme we had a choice of 3: 1. A-Z Indian Flatbreads that are not made using batter e.g. like rotis 2. A-Z Indian Flatbreads using batters e.g. dosa 3. A-Z International Flatbreads. I decided to opt for option number 1. India has such a huge variety of flatbreads to offer that are made on the stove top, in the tandoor, in the oven, under the grill or fried. Its going to be a challenge to…

EVENT: A- Z CHALLENGE THEME : A DISH BEGINNING WITH THE LETTER C What is the A- Z Challenge? Well, we’re a Facebook group and every alternate month the participants make a dish with the  relevant letter. The group was started in May 2018 by Jolly Makkar and Vidya Narayan.  For September we have to post a recipe with the letter C. The star ingredient for the dish should begin with C. I must admit that when I was in Montreal, hubby and I enjoyed all the berries that were in full season. We also had loads of succulent, ruby red, sweet cherries. So cherries is what I used for this theme. I usually cannot plan well ahead for any of the group events that I’m…

EVENT: RECIPE SWAP CHALLENGE THEME:RECIPE SWAP 2 Increasingly I find that people are not fulfilling their commitments, whether it be at home, at work, with families, friends , causes, groups, clubs, as citizens. People are becoming less mindful of what is expected from them. What is commitment? Commitment is the willingness to give up your time and energy to something that you believe in, or a promise or as a firm decision to do something. Its happening too often that people nowadays  feel that’s it alright to not carry out the task, duty or promise. There are some unfulfilled commitments that do not necessarily stop your daily routine for example when the iron man or presswala does not deliver pressed clothes on time, but image…

EVENT: FOODIEMONDAY/BLOGHOP THEME: #154 FILMI FOODIES Whenever Mallika who blogs at A Foodie Housewife suggests a theme for our weekly FoodieMonday group, she comes up with unique ideas. The #154th theme suggested by her was Filmi Foodies. So what does that mean? Well, either you make a dish that your favorite actor (note that these days there is no gender differentiation) loves, or any dish/dishes that an actor suggests or makes for the masses to follow their diet and nutritional plan or make a dish that has featured in a movie. The first foodie movie that I watched was Cheeni Kum. However, being a vegetarian I didn’t want to go into the whole procedure of creating a Hyderbadi Zafrani Pulao without meat. After that I watched…

EVENT: FOODIEMONDAY/BLOGHOP THEME: #151 CORN The whole of today was spent indoor as right now Montreal is going through a heatwave. We thought that the night time would be cooler so went for a long walk with hubby. However, the heat was unbearable. The last time I experienced a blast of hot air like this was years ago when I first went to Amdavad before I joined school in Mt.Abu. Mombasa is a hot and humid place but we don’t get dry hot air. Tomorrow too is going to be hot and people have been advised to drink lots of water. Luckily the football matches for the World Cup are going on so for better half of the day watched the matches. I cannot sit…
