EVENT: BLOGGING MARATHON #89 – WEEK 3 DAY 2 THEME: CONDIMENTS ON THE SIDE Whenever I’m going to visit my kids, or for that matter any of my family members, I tend to carry food stuff for them. Be it cookies, cakes, pickles, snacks, nuts, condiments, tea or coffee…the list is endless. When my relatives come down to Mombasa, they bring lots of food stuff for me. I use to think that its only Indians who travel to any corner of the world with half their suitcase full of food stuff. Its only when bags open at the airports you realize that everyone, literally everyone travels with food stuff for their friends and families. OK, I rest my case, the younger lot, though they will…

Kemcho? Avo maare gher. ( How are you? Welcome to my home)    March was when the Shhh Cooking Secretly group (started by Priya of Priya’s Versatile Recipes) ventured out to cook some Gujju (Gujarati) food. The general misconception is that Gujarati food is sweet. Yes we do use sugar and jaggery but it has to be a balance of both sweet and sour. Modern times with much health awareness, many Gujarati homes do not use sugar or jaggery in their daily cooking.     The land of Lions and Legends has countless varieties of dishes. As a Gujarati I can make out from which region the food has originated. For example kadhi made by Patel Community maybe so different in taste and texture from the…

Spreading Love    This is the first time I’m participating in the annual event #FoodBloggerLove Valentine’s Day. This event is organized by PinterTest Kitchen. This blog is run by Sharon Boyer and her two daughters Allison and Jessica.  Basically, you sign up for the event (it was a group I’d joined to share recipes and to get to know other bloggers, but forgot about the group till I got the invite to join in this event). Here, it works like  secret Santa. I got assigned a blogger and some else will get me.The deal is to either prepare something from the assigned blog or prepare something that he/she would like.We share our recipes on the same day(Please scroll down right to the bottom to see what…

Delicious Dumplings    A visit to Phoenix Mall, Bangalore is like a dazzling visit to Fairyland. Only thing is that nothing is free, you need oodles of money to buy whatever you want. I remember when I was studying in India in the 70s, nothing much was available and relatives and friends would have a long list of things they’d want us to bring for them from Kenya. Tables have turned, everything is available in India right from Rin soap to Audis. For a girl who comes from the supposedly second biggest city in Kenya, the malls are like paradise for me. Visiting Foodland is a foodie’s dream but unfortunately everything from lettuce to wheat pasta is overpriced. Eating healthy is an expensive habit. Wonder…

BLOGGING MARATHON #89 WEEK 4 DAY 3 THEME : REDO OLD POSTS Now that the festivities are over, its nice to get back to routine. Don’t get me wrong, I love Diwali. However, I tend to get so busy like everyone else and sometimes it seems that I am not going to be able to cope. Preparing mithai, full lunches, presents, treats, decorating the house, rangoli, diyas. The list is endless. I get so overwhelmed by the endless bookmarked recipes, that I want to prepare everything. Next Diwali I am going to make a list and stick to it. No stress and no fretting. The hot weather also does not help. By afternoon I am exhausted. This hot weather will now last till February. This…
