    EVENT: FOODIEMONDAY/BLOGHOP THEME: #220 GOURDS ARE BEAUTIFUL What is Karela Nu Shaak? Karela nu shaak is simply a side dish or sabji where chopped karela or bitter gourd is stir fried till done. One can cook it with potatoes or cashew nuts. I chose to prepare it with cashew nuts and raisins. After the karela are cooked, jaggery is added to make it into a delicious, lip smacking sweet and bitter shaak, sabji or side dish that is usually enjoyed with hot rotlis or phulkas, any other sabji/shaak and tuvar dal. When one talks of Odisha then Bhubaneswar and Puri , the land of Jagannath Temple comes to mind. Other reasons to visit the state is for the art and craft, the beaches, the wildlife and Kalinga Architecture, home to both the white and Bengal tigers, to watch Odissi dances and to enjoy the cuisine.     Merry Berries Berries in true sense are not the berries we all know… strawberries, mulberries, raspberries, blackberries etc. These in the botanical world are known as aggregate fruits. Berries are fruits produced from a single ovary. So in botanical sense tomatoes, cucumber, eggplants, bananas, pumpkins, melons are berries. Did you know that grapes too are berries? Yes they are.    However for our FoodieMonday/Bloghop #123rd theme, Berries we meant berries that we normally know. We had to prepare something using berries.
