It’s great spending time with my son It’s a week since we arrived in Montreal. The weather is really hot. Good for the people of Montreal, after the long winter. People sun tanning in their balconies, in the parks, children playing under the water fountains, pet owners out with their pets, cold beers, barbecues even in the smallest balconies, alfresco dining, beautiful flowers, greenery, street festivals, people riding on their bikes, walking, hiking, an endless list of ice cream flavours. The whole city is bustling with activities. For me its just too hot (I get too much sun anyway in Mombasa). Happy Makar Sankranti                 “Til-gul ghya ani gud gud bola“, which translates to ‘eat these sesame seeds and jaggery and speak sweet words’.  A festival that bonds all communities and encourages us to love all.    Makar Sankranti is the only festival in India which is based on the solar calendar and not the lunar one. These days she too is so busy as she is managing quite a few freelance projects which also includes work for my son and daughter in law’s upcoming boutique hotel project The Elementum. She is also trying to promote her own Type.Social as a content creator. Do take a while to check out both the sites. I cannot believe that my babies are now…

  • Thandai

    June 25, 2012mayurisjikoni

What is Thandai? Thandai is a cooling drink that is prepared during the Holi Festival. With the beginning of the hot days during Holi festival and also Shivratri, it’s ideal to serve cold Thandai to the guests. Actually, when one says thandai, it refers to the powder or syrup used to make the drink and also to the drink itself. Ideally made with dairy milk, one can easily substitute it with almond, cashew nut, soya or coconut milk. As a matter of fact, in Hindi it means cooling.   There are two forms: Powdered form where nuts, poppy seeds, pepper, fennel seeds, cardamom, dried rose petals, saffron, seeds like melon, pumpkin, are crushed to make the powder. The syrup form – The ingredients are crushed…
