EVENT: BLOGGING MARATHON #88 THEME: KID’S DELIGHT – HEALTHY DRINKS – DAY 3 I constantly to get to hear mums complaining about kids not eating. They tend to force feed toddlers and as a result meals becomes a constant battle between the mother and child. Your lunch time may not be your child’s lunch time. When my kids were growing up, my mother in law and I followed one rule, feed the children when they were hungry. No child can go without food. At some point they do feel hungry. Make meals an enjoyable part of their lives and not a chore or a battle. The other rule we followed as the kids grew up was, they ate what we ate. No special meals to…

EVENT: BLOGGING MARATHON #88 THEME: KID’S DELIGHT – HEALTHY DRINKS – DAY 2 As I mentioned in the Day 1 post for healthy drinks for kids, I want to refrain from using artificial flavors, additives, colors and today to the list I add harmful fats like hydrogenated vegetable fats. These are found in baked goods, restaurant foods, sold as margarine, finds its way into products like peanut butter, other nut spreads etc. Peanut butter in moderation is good for health. Making peanut butter at home is so easy. Roasted peanuts are processed in a food processor till it becomes a smooth paste. Its that simple. Why should kids have peanut butter included in their diet: Its rich in protein. Has good fat. Keeps one full…

EVENT:BLOGGING MARATHON #88 THEME: KID’S DELIGHT – HEALTHY DRINKS – DAY 1 For the next 3 days I will be preparing healthy drinks for kids. Yes, I know I don’t have kids at home, mine are all grown up. Usually its this fact that prevents me from taking part in the monthly Kid’s Delight theme that is organized by Srivalli. However, for the month of May, I participated in this event. The good part is that fellow members who host this event can decide on the theme. I will be hosting the kid’s delight healthy drinks from 16th May to 16th June. There is a specific reason why I chose healthy drinks. When we have so many options of serving healthy home made drinks be…

EVENT: BLOGGING MARATHON #88 THEME: REGIONAL CUISINE -DAY 3 Tomorrow is my best best best (note the x3 best) friend’s 60th birthday. Today a lunch was organized by her and her hubby for their friends, as she put it people that have made a difference in her life. I baked a orange saffron semolina cake for her. Well, not going to talk about the party but as I was sitting right across her, I admired how she was glowing in her pink outfit and I just couldn’t believe she is 60! Still very active, no aches and pains to complain about, a recent dazzling grandmother as she likes to call herself. Slim, confident, disciplined, a good singer, can make any party lively. We’ve been friends…

Event: Blogging Marathon#88 Theme: Regional Cuisine-Day 2 Today we’re going to the heel of Italy, to the region called Apulia or Puglia. This region has the Adriatic Sea to the east, Ionian Sea to the south-east and the Strait of Otranto and Gulf Taranto to the south. This region produces olives, tomatoes, aubergine, asparagus, artichokes and mushrooms. Salento a region of Apulia is right at the tip or the heel of the boot. Today’s recipe is from Salento area. Rustico (plural is rustici) is a puff pastry filled with sauces and cheese. Its baked and usually enjoyed as a mid morning snack or as an evening appetizer. Two discs of pastry are used to sandwich the sauces and mozzarella cheese. This pastry was very delicious…

Event: Blogging Marathon #88 Theme: Regional Cuisine We’ve just got over the Mega Blogging Marathon, I still have so many blog posts to comment on, then there are other group challenges. I nearly did not participate in this month’s BM challenge. However, I remembered that I’m hosting the Kid’s Friendly Event this month where I’ll have the linky tool up by next week for Kids Healthy Drinks. The curious me also wanted to know what the themes were. I thought “just read and get out of the blog post”. Yeah right! Like that is possible–dahhhh! Food Bloggers are quite gullible when it comes to some different kind of themes and challenges. I read regional cuisines and bells began to ring. No don’t, no don’t, too…

The Mega Blogging Marathon theme for April 2018 was Explore the Flavors. This time we could choose from a number of given themes. Follow one theme for all 26 days or choose a weekly theme. The themes were as follows: Kids Lunchbox Street Food Indian Sweets Lunch Box Dishes (Elders) Breakfasts (International or Indian) No Refined Sugar or Refined Flour (only baked or typical dishes that are made with alternatives) No Onion No Garlic Whole Grain I chose to do the International Breakfast theme and this time I didn’t post the dishes randomly but followed the alphabet and also tried not to repeat the country. Overall a challenging task but feel really great as I got to discover so many different breakfast dishes from world…

MEGA BLOGGING MARATHON – APRIL 2018 #87TH BLOGGING MARATHON THEME: EXPLORE THE FLAVORS – INTERNATIONAL BREAKFASTS DAY 26  Today is the last day of the Mega Blogging Marathon. This has been the second time I’ve participated in the MBM. Its a dedication of full 26 days to get posts according to the theme out on time, and also to comment on the participating bloggers blog too. It just turns into a lot of comments to write but we do get some extra time to complete the commenting. Participating in this Mega series has taught me a lot. I get to learn a lot more about different cuisines, get to know more about different countries and also the main important lesson is it teaches me to…

MEGA BLOGGING MARATHON -APRIL 2018 #87TH BLOGGING MARATHON THEME: EXPLORE THE FLAVORS – INTERNATIONAL BREAKFAST DAY 25 I cannot believe that the mega blogging marathon is nearly getting over. However, that does not mean we can relax and breathe. I know already some of my fellow members have already started preparing for the September Mega Blogging Marathon. I still have to begin my search for the theme. For Day 25 the letter is Y. Not many options with Y.  I had youtiao from China in mind. It looks like churros but is not sweet and is served with congee or milk. As I didn’t want to repeat the country I had to cancel youtiao as I made xiao mi zhou  from China. After much thought…

MEGA BLOGGING MARATHON -APRIL 2018 #87 BLOGGING MARATHON THEME: EXPLORE THE FLAVORS – INTERNATIONAL BREAKFAST DAY 24 “Breakfast like a King, Lunch like a Prince and Dine like a Pauper” Finally it’s the day when I’ve come to the most difficult letter and that is X. Till 10 days ago I was still searching for a traditional breakfast recipe. Googling for foods beginning with X was not fruitful. Then I decided to try the other way round, googling for foods from each country. The only logic I used to google China was that is perhaps one of the few languages where X is used extensively. And hey presto like magic Xiao Mi Zhou appeared. Xiao Mi Zhou is a millet porridge that is common in…
