EVENT: FOODIEMONDAY/BLOGHOP THEME: #211 NATURALLY COLOURFUL Happy Ganesh Chaturthi to all my friends, family and followers. This year, there is an emphasis on natural and environmentally friendly ways of celebrating this important festival. That led to me think why not extend this to making naturally colored food as the next theme for FoodieModay Bloghop group. The members had to use naturally colorful ingredients to create their dish. Whether for the festival or not it had to be naturally colored. No adding artificial colors. I remember when my kids were young, I’d add naturally colored fruits and vegetables to make their meals more exciting. I’d add carrot puree, spinach puree, beetroot puree, turmeric powder, use strawberries, chocolate or cocoa powder, purple grapes, avocado, red cabbage, mangoes,…

EVENT: FOODIEMONDAY/BLOGHOP THEME: #206 GLUTEN FREE TREATS Today my 100% concentration is not on writing the post and yet I want to say so much. The problem is that I just don’t know how to put my feelings into words. For once I’m lost for words! I guess that happens to all those who become grandparents for the first time or even many times. I guess the feeling is the same. Yes, now officially I’m a grandmother or more precisely  as they say in Gujarati ‘Hu Ba bani gayi.’ So, now I proudly announce that I’m Ba to Lily Monique Mayuri Patel. Must say that’s a really long name but feel so honoured that the parents (my son and daughter in law) have decided that…

EVENT: RECIPE SWAP CHALLENGE THEME:RECIPE SWAP 3 Today’s recipe is for the Recipe Swap Challenge Group. What is this group all about? Initiated by Jolly Makkar and Vidya Narayan, every alternate month the participants are paired up. We choose a recipe to cook from our partner’s blog. The recipe can be cooked as it is or make slight changes. This a great group as it allows me to prepare recipes that I’ve bookmarked or saved from fellow bloggers. When I submitted my name for this challenge, I thought I would have enough time after I come back from my trip to India to prepare my recipe. Sure I did have a few days as I’d already decided what I wanted to make from my partner…

EVENT: MEGA BLOGGING MARATHON#92 THEME: A-Z  FLATBREADS AND MORE – INDIAN FLATBREADS – ROUND UP India has a huge variety of flatbreads – rotis, puris, parathas, bhakris, dosas, chilas, batti, litti etc. Most of these are consumed in every household either for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Some states prefer flatbreads to rice while some need both. It is believed that the humble roti may have originated from Persia where it was made using refined flour. The wheat version was started in the state of Awadh. A more coarser flour was used back then and shaped into a katori or bowl to hold the curry. It was considered a poor man’s diet, not needing an utensil to hold the curry. Yet old texts do mention roti…

EVENT: MEGA BLOGGING MARATHON#92 THEME: A-Z  FLATBREADS AND MORE – INDIAN FLATBREADS The day has not begun on a happy note for most Kenyans. Yet again we have to tighten our belts as petrol prices have risen with a 16% VAT on petroleum products. We were already trying to deal with high food prices and the high cost of living and this falls like a tonne of bricks on our heads. Yet again transport prices with go up and in turn effect the cost of transporting basic goods like food and clothing. For many Kenyans there is nothing to be cheerful about as salaries don’t increase but the cost of living has been rising since the Jubilee Party came into power. We just have to…

MEGA BLOGGING MARATHON – APRIL 2018 #87TH BLOGGING MARATHON THEME: EXPLORE THE FLAVORS – INTERNATIONAL BREAKFAST DAY 9 “Breakfast Like a King, Lunch like a Prince and Dine like a Pauper” I’m a little excited and at the same time a bit worried. Pretty soon am moving from Blogger to WordPress. Work is still in progress. I’m keeping all my fingers crossed that the move will be seamless. The new blog was supposed to be ready before I started the Mega Blogging Marathon. Before I posted the first day recipe I was in a dilemma as to should I participate or not. What made me participate is some of the recipes that I had already prepared for the theme. As the saying goes ‘baad mai…
