EVENT:FOODIEMONDAY/BLOGHOPTHEME:#185 GLOWING SKIN RECIPES When Amrita who blogs at The Food Samaritan suggested glowing skin recipe, I thought wow, what a topic. We normally tend to ignore the fact that food very much predicts how our skin is going to look or looks. The glowing radiant smooth appearance of the skin comes from within us and not entirely from what cosmetics we use on top of our skin. It is important to use facial creams to combat dryness of the skin due to variation of weather and seasons. I personally am not into buying very expensive creams for my face or skin. I don’t believe that a Rs.5000 plus pot of facial cream rich in Vitamin E or collagen will change my skin in a…

EVENT: HEALTHY WELLTHY CUISINES THEME: 58 HWCG #NUTTYNUT AT HW The fortnight has just passed so quickly. I feel I just made the paneer chutney sandwich for this group just the other day! We’re back to another theme. This time the theme suggested was Dry Fruits. Then there was a lot of confusion over this term as dry fruits in India is also used for nuts whereas elsewhere in the world nuts are nuts and dry fruits are fruits that are dried.  I was obviously quite confused as there was quite a bit of controversy over it. However, I decided to stick to both nuts and dry fruits. I already had a delicious cookie recipe ready, but my daughter didn’t approve. Not that the cookies…

EVENT: BLOGGING MARATHON #88 THEME: KID’S DELIGHT – HEALTHY DRINKS – WEEK 3 DAY 2 As I mentioned in the Day 1 post for healthy drinks for kids, I want to refrain from using artificial flavors, additives, colors and today to the list I add harmful fats like hydrogenated vegetable fats. These are found in baked goods, restaurant foods, sold as margarine, finds its way into products like peanut butter, other nut spreads etc. Peanut butter in moderation is good for health. Making peanut butter at home is so easy. Roasted peanuts are processed in a food processor till it becomes a smooth paste. Its that simple. Why should kids have peanut butter included in their diet: Its rich in protein. Has good fat. Keeps…

MEGA BLOGGING MARATHON -APRIL 2018 #87TH BLOGGING MARATHON THEME: EXPLORE THE FLAVORS – INTERNATIONAL BREAKFAST DAY 25 I cannot believe that the mega blogging marathon is nearly getting over. However, that does not mean we can relax and breathe. I know already some of my fellow members have already started preparing for the September Mega Blogging Marathon. I still have to begin my search for the theme. For Day 25 the letter is Y. Not many options with Y.  I had youtiao from China in mind. It looks like churros but is not sweet and is served with congee or milk. As I didn’t want to repeat the country I had to cancel youtiao as I made xiao mi zhou  from China. After much thought…

MEGA BLOGGING MARATHON – APRIL 2018 #87TH BLOGGING MARATHON THEME: EXPLORE THE FLAVORS – INTERNATIONAL BREAKFAST DAY 8 “Breakfast like a King, Lunch like a Prince and Dine like a Pauper” Yesterday we were invited to hubby’s uncle’s birthday. He is in his 80s. Still pretty strong, but as he is aging he tends to talk less. However that is made up with all the chit chat that my aunt does. She’s a very lively person and loves to talk.  The party went well. It was just relatives and a handful of people they know. All was good, the food, the liveliness and the youngest at the party was about 9-10 months and the oldest being our Uncle. What got me thinking during the party was…

MEGA BLOGGING MARATHON – APRIL 2018 #87TH BLOGGING MARATHON THEME – EXPLORE THE FLAVORS – INTERNATIONAL BREAKFAST DAY 7 “Breakfast like a King, Lunch like a Prince and Dine like a Pauper” We’re into the second week of the Mega Blogging Marathon. While some have chosen to do 4 different themes for 4 weeks, I challenged myself with International Breakfasts and that too in an alphabetical order. When it came to G, I went from Granola to Green Peas Parathas to Grits. Finally chose Girdle or Griddle Scones from SCOTLAND. I’m a bit partial towards scones as I simply love them. My cousin in London, makes the best scones. Just out of the oven warm scones with butter, jams and clotted cream. Once when she…

Enkare Nyrobi – Cool Water      I’ve been spending some time in the capital city of Kenya, Nairobi. Nairobi gets its name from the Masai phrase Enkare Nyrobi which means cool water. It perhaps was names so as its got the Nairobi River flowing through it. However, the river is no longer what I remembered it as. Its polluted and the flow has reduced due modernization.  I was born and brought up in Nairobi but have been living in Mombasa for the past 35 years. Usually when hubby and I are traveling abroad, we do not bother to come into the city and prefer to catch our connecting flight. The traffic in Nairobi is a nightmare in spite of all the new highways and numerous…

Healthy Red    Mondays comes just too fast.Imagine we’re already into the second month of the year. In just a month, the other Presidential Election candidate, who lost the second round of election that took place in Nov, was ‘sworn’ in as the ‘People’s President’. In their battle to win the powerful chair, the country is still battling with basic needs. High Food Prices, clean drinking water, better roads, proper sanitation, a cleaner environment to name a few issue needs urgent attention. So many issues to tackle. Mombasa has trash dumped all on roadsides and the hills are going taller by the day. I wish the politicians would for once with dedication just get on with what their tasks are instead of wasting time and useful…

Love this recipe    Its Monday and yes you’ve guessed right.. its #FoodieMonday #Bloghop day. Our #98th theme was chosen by Saswati who blogs at Delish Potpourri. Saswati’s got a beautiful blog full of travel stories, a variety of recipes from different parts of the world and I love her desserts. She suggested #CWFB which means Cooking with a fellow blogger. For this theme we had a choose any recipe from a fellow blogger in our group. I have so many recipes bookmarked from all these members, it was difficult to choose which one to cook.    Sticking to my healthy cooking as far as possible, I narrowed it down to 2 recipes that I’ve tried and made again and again. One is rava kara…
