For Little Angels Theme: Kid’s Delight – Chocolate DishesBM#85 Week 3 Day 1   Its the first time that I’m actually making something with kids in mind. Mine are all grown up and now treat hubby and me like kids! Don’t do this, don’t travel alone, call us when you’re going out, etc etc. Does that sound familiar? Are we getting a dose of our own medicine? My daughter in this respect is just too over protective. Sometimes I feel good but sometimes get irritated when she thinks I can’t think for myself. However, when she automatically holds my hand when we’re crossing a very busy road, I feel so loved. When my sons ask me if I need anything, its such a comforting feeling. When…

Merry Christmas Everyone This Christmas I’m celebrating it in the Exotic Tropical Island of Bali… yes the Bali where Julia Roberts finds inner peace and balance of love in the movie Eat, Pray and Love. Spending this holiday season with my eldest son, his wife and her parents. The #124th theme Christmas for FoodieMonday/ Bloghop group has come just at the right time. Last week before traveling I baked an Easy Christmas Cake and some Cookies. So for this post was contemplating whether I should post the cake first or the cookies. The cake won and the cookies will be posted a bit later. The last time we spent Christmas with my daughter in law and her parents was in Dubai. Family time together is…

MEGA BLOGGING MARATHON -SEPT 2017 #80TH BLOGGING MARATHON THEME: PROTEIN RICH DISHES DAY:13    Plastic is becoming a mega concern world over as the land and oceans are getting littered with this ‘we love to use it so much’ product. Low production cost, easy to manufacture, versatile, impervious to water, easily moldable, has made this product so popular world over that its used right from pins heads to space ships. Its replaced wood, metal, glass, ceramic, paper, stone, leather etc. However, misuse of plastic has caused it to become as one of the major environmental threats to the world. Its alarming that minute particles are making their way to our food. Both land and sea animals are ingesting plastic and this in turn is landing up on our plates.…

Season’s Greetings to all Hope you all have had a wonderful Christmas holiday. It’s really satisfying to be back to blogging after over a month. My daughter is married and happy with her hubby and new family. Must say it has been a roller coaster ride for us preparing for this wedding. We call my daughter ‘The drama queen of the family’ and drama certainly happened ever so often. Don’t get me wrong it was not her creating the drama, but events or mishaps which would be followed by drama from the ‘queen’. The first such incident was when special earrings she had ordered from a designer all the way in Ludhiana arrived let’s say just for one ear and not two! That’s the time…

It’s great spending time with my son It’s a week since we arrived in Montreal. The weather is really hot. Good for the people of Montreal, after the long winter. People sun tanning in their balconies, in the parks, children playing under the water fountains, pet owners out with their pets, cold beers, barbecues even in the smallest balconies, alfresco dining, beautiful flowers, greenery, street festivals, people riding on their bikes, walking, hiking, an endless list of ice cream flavours. The whole city is bustling with activities. For me its just too hot (I get too much sun anyway in Mombasa). So I really don’t want to get out of the house till after 4pm when the heat is a bit bearable. However, sometimes we…

Healthy start to the day Many of us cannot begin the day without breakfast, some don’t have breakfast at all and some just need their daily mug of coffee or tea to begin the day. I cannot skip breakfast especially when I am not fasting. I love to have bread and tea or cereal. However, I have recently got hubby dear to have oats instead of cereal as they say even though he has bran flakes, all cereals contain sugar. I prefer to have a nice thick smoothie. Whatever ingredients I use for his porridge mine go into the blender. My day begins with work in the kitchen before the water disappears, yoga and then after a cold shower, and my prayers I relax and…

a bread for Halloween  The We Knead to Bake group started by Aparna was challenged to bake a Barmbrack for October. Just the right sort of loaf as Halloween is just round the corner. What is a barmbrack? It’s an Irish bread usually baked to serve on the night of Halloween. The Celtic festival Samhain, meaning end of summer and All Hallows’Evening was merged as one. Its believed that souls of the dead walk the earth on that evening. Barmbrack is an Irish sweet bread. Barm comes from the word beorma meaning a yeasty fermented liquor and brack comes from the Irish word brac meaning speckled. Speckled because the sweet loaf is dotted with dried fruits like raisins, sulatanas, cranberries, apricots, mixed peel etc.In Gaelic its…

a very happy janamashtami  Lord Krishna’s birthday is a joyous event celebrated with much pomp and happiness by most Hindus. Somehow I have never associated Janamashtami with seriousness of pooja, havan and abhishek like say, Lord Ram’s birthday. It’s perhaps because its only during Janamashtami that the ISKCON temples organise a lot of entertainment to celebrate it. The temple in Mombasa usually manages to put up a few dances depicting Krishna’s life and once in a while a short play. However, celebrations at the Juhu temple are on a much grandeur scale with lots happening for the whole week. It was during one of our visits to Mumbai that we got to see a ballet on Yashoda ma and Krishna performed by none other than…
