EVENT: FOODIEMONDAY/BLOGHOP THEME: #253 MUNCHKIN MEALS DISH: BEETROOT BLUEBERRY POPS This Week’s Theme on FoodieMonday/Bloghop Group: This week’s theme was suggested by Narmadha who blogs at Nams Corner. Her blog is a treasure trove of kids friendly recipes, bakes and Indian Cuisine recipes. Do check out her blog. Narmadha’s suggestion for the munchkin meals was to try and make them as healthy as possible. Desserts are always difficult to make them kids friendly with no sugar. That’s when I thought of Beetroot Blueberry Pops. Kids Friendly Meals When my kids were growing up making meals for them was never stressful. Back then we didn’t have restrictions, no don’t give that and don’t give this. When my kids started pureed food it was always made at…

EVENT: A- Z CHALLENGE THEME : A DISH BEGINNING WITH THE LETTER G What is the A- Z Challenge? Well, we’re a Facebook group and every alternate month the participants make a dish with the  relevant letter. The group was started in May 2018 by Jolly Makkar and Vidya Narayan. For the month of May (it’s already a year since the group began, time flies!) we have to post a recipe using an ingredient that begins with G. G is not a difficult letter as such as there are many food items that begin with G. I normally don’t drink fizzy drinks but when its real hot, ginger ale is what I love sipping on. With the scorching sun bearing down on us, the family was…

EVENT: BREAD BAKERS THEME : BREAKFAST BREADS August is when the theme for Bread Bakers was Breakfast Breads. These include yeast or quick breads, pancakes, muffins, scones, flatbreads etc. This exciting theme was chosen by fellow baker Felice Geoghegan who blogs at All That’s Left Are The Crumbs. If you are ever looking for recipes to make bundt cakes, cakes, muffins, cookies, breads then that’s the blog you have to check out. I can assure you that drooling will be at the maximum. When I think of breakfast breads few options pop up immediately in my head from buttery croissants, scones to Indian flatbreads. I was visiting my son in Montreal and whenever I’m there I go crazy buying all sorts of berries. The day…

EVENT: A-Z CHALLENGE THEME: A DISH BEGINNING WITH THE LETTER B Before I go into my usual story telling mode, I have to explain to you what the A-Z challenge group is all about. Every alternate month the participants make a dish with the  relevant letter. The group was started in May by Jolly Makkar and Vidya Narayan. The first letter was A. For July we have to post a recipe with the letter B.  I have chosen to use blueberries. The past few days in Montreal have been unbearably hot. Many states towards the Eastern side are experiencing a heat wave where temperatures are rising to 34°C but it feels so much hotter than that. A couple of days ago we went out as…

MEGA BLOGGING MARATHON – APRIL 2018 #87TH BLOGGING MARATHON THEME: EXPLORE THE FLAVORS – INTERNATIONAL BREAKFAST DAY 4 “Breakfast like a King, Lunch like a Prince and Dine like a Pauper.”    Today for breakfast is D for Dutch Baby Pancakes. Before we go to the recipe, let me assure you it has nothing to do with the country Netherlands or the Dutch. These pancakes, also called German pancakes, A Bismarck or even Dutch puffs were made first by Victor Manca in his cafe in Seattle, North America. His daughter named them Dutch Baby Pancakes where perhaps her pronunciation of Deutsch sounded more like Dutch. The confusion now is whether they originate from USA or Germany. Either way, its my contribution for an International Breakfast…

Easy dessert Theme: No Bake Desserts BM#78 Week 3 Day 1     I love making easy desserts. It usually means I get to serve it in a glass and its just a matter of putting a few ingredients together to make a satisfying dessert. Srivalli, the starter of Blogging Marathon suggested that for this theme we make desserts that normally we would bake but instead to beat the heat, make them in such a manner that we don’t have to bake them in a convectional oven.      When I decided to choose the theme, the first baked dessert that came to my mind was apple crumble or as its known apple crisp. Basically, chopped apples mixed with a bit of butter, sugar and…

My first experience with an ice cream maker My first visit to Canada last year was full of excitement and my son tried to make it special in every respect. He froze loads of blueberries for us as it would have been out of season by the time we reached there. I was obviously excited to try out Neel’s ice cream maker. Read the instructions properly, browsed the internet to know to use frozen fruits to make ice cream. There was no one recipe I followed, took what I thought would work for me from here and there and made soft serve blueberry ice cream. My son and hubby were excited but I was like a little kid, over excited. We couldn’t even wait to…

a cool breakfast Woke up a bit late after tossing and turning half the night as it was pretty humid. Suddenly it has become very hot in Montreal. After doing a bit of housework, it was time for breakfast. Didn’t want to have toast, cereal or anything hot. Out came the yogurt and fruit. Instead of having everything on its own I made a nice cool smoothie. Filling, cooling, satisfying and delicious. I love using Neel’s Gordan Ramsey 3 in one hand blender. Within seconds had the smoothie ready. Its a powerful blender. Try out  a smoothie with all sorts of fruit and yogurt. Blueberries contain anthocyanin antioxidants, are an excellent source of  manganese and Vitamin C. Low in fat, and are said to help…

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. If you’ve had a hearty breakfast then its less likely that you will binge on unhealthy snacks in between meals. Making kids have breakfast is a big task. Sometimes its best to give them some healthy muffins which are loaded with fruits and nuts. The baking bug does not stay away from me for too long. Have been busy baking some of the already blogged recipes. I had this muffin recipe in my book for quite a while and I finally got down to baking them yesterday. Its amazing how quickly one can make muffins once all the ingredients are at hand. The muffins turned out just right…. soft, not too sweet and healthy. Ideal carry…
