EVENT: BLOGGING MARATHON #89 THEME: MAKE ONE TYPE OF INDIAN SWEET Next week I’m traveling to Canada to visit my son. Excited? Yes. Have I started packing? No. I know last minute I’m going to be running around like a headless chicken. I need to put away the spices, grains, flours, lentils everything in the fridge. I hate this part. The weather here is so humid that food gets spoilt within a month in not stored in the fridge. I need to still make a few goodies to take for him. I need to pack. I was joking with hubby dear that he might as well convert one of the bedrooms into a cold storage. Oh well, let me just relax for a bit and…

EVENT: BLOGGING MARATHON #89 WEEK 2 DAY 1 THEME: MAKE ONE TYPE OF INDIAN SWEET For the #89th BM theme I chose make one type of Indian Sweet as I specifically had one famous and easy Indian sweet in mind, and that is kheer. I want to show that any type of kheer can be made into a sugar less option too. I personally don’t like the taste of any artificial sweeteners. However hubby loves his stevia. When I made the kheer, I added sugar at the last stage. I removed a portion for hubby, added stevia and to mine I added sugar. Also one is able to control the amount of sugar according to their taste. Don’t want to add sugar then add palm…

EVENT: FOODIEMONDAY/BLOGHOP THEME: #145 – CAKES When Preethi who blogs at Preethi’s Cuisine suggested Cakes as the #145th theme for FoodieMonday/Bloghop group I jumped at the suggestion as for quite a while now I have not tried out a new cake recipe. I’ve been baking cakes but the normal eggless one that I bake as people have asked for it. When the suggestion of cake came up, I’m sure no one in our group thought of the forthcoming big Royal Wedding. I baked the cake on Friday evening and added the final touch on Saturday morning, thinking to myself that ‘ok dessert is ready for tonight’. Around lunch time hubby comes home and asked me why I was not watching the wedding. I asked whose and he…

MEGA BLOGGING MARATHON – APRIL 2018 #87TH BLOGGING MARATHON THEME: EXPLORE THE FLAVORS – INTERNATIONAL BREAKFAST DAY 13 “Breakfast like a King, Lunch like a Prince and Dine like a Pauper” Wow, we’ve reached half way, another half to go. As the letters are passing by so quickly so are the days.  I had the real Monday Blues today. Got up early, beat the clock and finished all my kitchen work before the water went away and was all ready to tackle a few hours on the computer. However, suddenly I felt a little dizzy and couldn’t concentrate on what I was supposed to write. Decided to rest a bit till hubby comes home for lunch. Served lunch, didn’t feel like eating much but he…

Delish and Evil Theme: No bake Desserts BM#78 Week 3 Day 3 When I saw so many dark ruby red cherries at the market and in the supermarket, I was tempted to bake a black forest cake. Basically a Black Forest cake, is layers of chocolate cake, kirsch soaked cherries, grated chocolate and whipped cream. Kirsch(kirsch wasser) is a spirit made from tart cherries. I would have loved to bake this cake or gateau as its called. However, my family would have probably thrown me out with all the dessert I’m making for the past few days. Remember I mentioned in the last dessert post that I was looking for brownies. Well, its for this dessert. Since I couldn’t bake the cake(who will eat it??)…

Going all the way to Mexico Well not really, am at the moment sitting in London writing about a Mexican bread. Cemita originates from city and region of Puebla in Mexico. It refers to the bread as well as the sandwich itself. The bread bun or roll is made with flour, fat and egg and has sesame seeds on top. It has a brioche like texture, crispy on the outside and soft and spongy inside and slightly sweet. Found as street food in many cities and towns of  Mexico, as well as the streets of  New York and Los Angeles. The sandwich typically contains a white cheese, avocado, meat, onions, salsa and papalo herb. Papalo is very much similar to coriander. Some bakers added the herb…

It’s an Honour    Last Saturday was an exciting day for me. I was installed as the 19th President of my very hardworking and active Club, Lions Club of Mombasa Bahari. Since the Club was chartered, I have been a part of it. First as a spouse and then as a Lion. The best part was that one of my good friend Lion Tasneem Dar, performed the ceremony of installing me along with my board members. My best friend Daxa and Jitu were there to share the milestone in my life along with my brother in law and sister in law. The surprise moment was when my hubby Ajay, sang a song for me. I was feeling shy, happy and loved all at the same…

  • 511. Maritozzi Con La Panna (Roman Cream Buns)

    July 9, 2015mayurisjikoni

Bellissimo       I swear I missed these delicious soft sweet brioche like buns when I went to Rome. I didn’t see them or perhaps my tunnel of vision at that time was just on gelato, all different flavours. But then we were too busy taking in all the sights and hardly had any time to laze around cafes and coffee shops. Gelato, prosecco, pizzas and pasta were the main things I looked out for. The only time I had anything sweet besides gelato was tiramisu. Oh well anyway, baking these soft, sweet, orangey buns was a delight. Obviously the whole house smelt so good and the buns disappeared pretty fast during breakfast. When I baked the maritozzi, I was in Montreal. I had…

very berry yummy       Today was not such a great day for me. From the time I woke up I was on the go and trying to juggle so many chores all together. In all this what did I sacrifice? My exercise. By noon I was feeling a bit relieved that chores were getting ticked off my list. However come evening and again I experienced a general slum in my overall existence. Felt bad that I sacrificed exercise to do other chores. I questioned myself and thought why didn’t I sacrifice my meal time? However, things had to be done so there was no other option. To add to the fight for time, I had to sit at the national id card office…

my three hundredth recipe Its a proud moment for me as this is my 300th recipe on my blog. There are so many more recipes to share and try out. But the feeling is great. The support from my hubby, my kids, family and friends has been overwhelming. The opening line for a conversation at a social gathering is my blog. Recently I have had other food bloggers commenting on my blog and its an appreciative feeling to know their opinion and at the same time its like making new friends without actually meeting them in person…. more like modern day penpals. So far my most memorable moment was I received an email from the grandson of the owners of Cosy Tearoom. I had mentioned…
