Happy Holi    I’m not going to go into why Holi is celebrated as I’ve already mentioned that in my other Holi posts. However, I still believe that everyone can enjoy a more environmentally friendly Holi by not using artificial colors. Not only do those awful reds, blues, greens and yellows not come off our skin and hair for days but it affects the plants, makes the roads look messy and dirty. Its also a waste of water which is fast becoming even more precious than any metal on earth. At the same time please please please leave your pets out of this celebration. A hug should suffice and not coloring the poor creature’s fur with all sorts of colors!    When I was growing up…

Happy Valentine’s Day    What is Valentine’s Day without roses, chocolates and all things cute? Hope hubby is reading this and gets a hint;). People could be selling Valentine’s paraphernalia right under his nose and he’d still not get the hint. Sighhhh! Perhaps I should treat myself to roses.     Getting down to today’s theme for FoodieMonday/Bloghop group, we unanimously decided on Valentine Rose as our 131st theme. For this theme one could either prepare something that has rose flavor or which is in the shape of a rose. I really love rose flavor so I chose to make a healthy but romantic dessert. Though I served to hubby dear a few days before Valentine’s, he thoroughly enjoyed the early treat. That means I will…

Exotic Name, Exotic Dish Diwali week is ever so busy in general, but more so for me this year as my maid decided not to come to work and to top it up came down with a bad flu and fever. So I nearly sat out this theme. What am I talking about? Its the FoodieMonday/Bloghop day. The #115th theme – Awadhi Cuisine was decided by Kriti who blogs at Krispy Kadhai.    I was really in no mood or didn’t have the energy to really do any research on that cuisine. However, eat we all must whether sick or not and I had a huge slab of paneer staring at me whenever I opened the fridge. So, do you get those days when with…

Cookie,a must with tea or coffee Theme: Cookies For Your Sweet Tooth   BM #81 Week 2 Day 2    Isn’t it intriguing that when one has tea or coffee during mid morning or in the afternoon, one feels like having a cookie with it? I do. I usually want to have one small cookie with my afternoon tea. My siblings and I grew up having biscuits as we called them back then with our glass of milk. I enjoy dunking my cookie or biscuit in the tea, milk or coffee. A few places in the world will automatically serve a small cookie along with some coffee. I like that special treat whenever I get it.    I enjoying baking and cookies was what I learnt how to…

5th Blogiversary   Above picture from Google  Yes, its a milestone achieved. Its exactly 5 years ago I started blogging. Back then had no idea how to take photos, add photos, link articles, and so much more. Over the years not only have I learnt so much in the technology world but also have learnt so much in the food world. I’ve made some very good friends over the internet and met a few. I’ve learnt so much by joining groups that challenge me to bake, cook, prepare different varieties of food. I can easily say that I try out a new recipe at least once a week if not more. Some have been total disasters and some not approved by family members.   I’ve thoroughly…

Happy Diwali Wishing all my friends and family a very Happy Diwali. Time is just flying by so fast. Its already Diwali but this time round my kitchen is not busy. You all may wonder why? A food blogger and her kitchen is quiet during the festivities. Well, it happens sometimes. I fell sick during my recent visit to Mumbai and its taking me a while to recover and gain enough energy to toil over a stove. Luckily, I had prepared my October shhhh cooking secretly challenge before I left for Delhi and Mumbai. My partner for the October “Diwali theme” was Avin Kohli of The Yellow Daal and she challenged me to make a Diwali treat using condensed milk and gulkand. Do take time to…

  • 428. savoury rose rolls (eggless)

baking and some more baking Just a few days after I had made the pesto braided bread and patted my back 🙂 and Aparna of My Diverse Kitchen comes up with the August We Knead to Bake challenge…. a savoury filled bread and the bread had to be decorative. Couldn’t do the Russian Braid again so the earnest hunt began for a decorative bread. The first place I hunted was my book marked and saved recipes and lo behold came across rose buns to try from Fauzia’s Kitchen Fun. More than the filling what caught my eye was the shape. I searched for other decorative shapes but the rose rolls were stuck in my head. So one more bookmarked recipe or rather technique over and…
